Working with the San Diego Food Bank, located off of Miramar road, Lions from the San Diego United Lions Club partnered with UCSD volunteers during the month of November to help pack fresh produce for distribution to those in need in our community.

With boxes of fruit and vegetables covering the warehouse floor, a variety of produce could be seen in the huge open space. Tables were readied for sorting, counting, bagging, and knotting the net bags. Volunteers rolled their sleeves up to begin their jobs of preparing onions and kiwis for distribution. With a little friendly volunteer competition on the floor, everyone worked at “lightening speed” to “do just a little more” than the other volunteer team.

At the end of the evening, 6000 pounds of onions and kiwis were bagged and ready for distribution the following morning. Both SDULC and UCSD volunteers stood tall and proud of all the boxes they had filled during their night shift. Good job everyone-so proud of your contributions to the community, its citizens, and those in need.
